Venus and Jupiter (and the Pleiades) Tonight, April 2, 2012

Tonight Venus begins passing the Pleiades as seen from the Chicago area. In this 20-second time exposure (taken at 8:25 p.m. CDT), Venus appears next to the star cluster, with Aldebaran and the Hyades cluster nearby. Jupiter is rapidly disappearing from the scene.

This “close-up” of Venus and the Pleiades is cropped from the full-size image that was used to identify the planets and stars at the top of this posting.

Weather permitting, watch Venus during the next two evenings as it moves past the cluster.
