Bright Jupiter and Mars shine from the northeastern horizon this morning at 4:20 a.m. CDT as seen from the Chicago area. (Click the image to see it larger.) This morning the pair are just over 1 degree apart; that’s about 2 full moon diameters. Even though Mars is closer, the Giant Planet is about 25 times brighter than the Red Planet. Mars continues its eastward orbital movement and moves away from Jupiter. Watch them separate during the next several mornings.
