Brilliant Venus appears in the west this evening as seen from the Chicago area at 9:10 p.m. CDT. (Click the image to see it larger.) Still appearing low in the sky during early evening, Venus is seen in this 10 second exposure.

Meanwhile Saturn appears in the southwest near Spica (Virgo) with Arcturus (Bootes) appearing higher in the sky.

During the month watch Venus and Saturn get closer.  Tonight they are over 50 degrees apart.
