Brilliant Venus and Saturn appear in the western sky during early evening hours as seen from the Chicago area at 8:50 p.m. CDT this evening.  (Click on the image above to see it larger.)  At this hour Venus is low in the western sky with yellowish Saturn 33 degrees to its upper left.  The bright star Spica (Virgo) is between the two planets.  Venus gets closer to both celestial objects during the next few weeks.  The bright star Arcturus (Bootes) appears higher in the western sky.
