Bright Jupiter and Mars shine from the southeastern sky this morning. Jupiter is the brightest “star” in the eastern sky. Mars is 16 degrees to the upper right of Jupiter. Mars is 3.2 degrees from the star Spica and moves towards a January conjunction with Jupiter. Jupiter is slowly lumbering eastward to move between Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali, the bright stars in Libra.
Jupiter passes Zubenelgenubi on December 21, its first of three conjunctions during this appearance.
