2020, April 18: Venus is 10.4° to the lower right of Elnath.

Shining at its brightest intensity, spectacular Venus gleams from the west this evening during twilight. It is in front of the stars of Taurus. The brightest is Aldebaran, the Bull’s Eye. The horns are marked by Elnath and Zeta Tauri. Venus is moving toward Elnath, the Bull’s Northern Horn, for a quasi (near)-conjunction early next month.

This evening Venus is 10.4° to the lower right of Elnath. Watch it get closer each evening.

Bright stars that are prominent during the colder months are nearby. Betelgeuse is part of Orion and Capella is the brightest star in Auriga.
