Author's Notes: "Bright star" in the eastern sky after sundown is Jupiter. During the night Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars are strung across the sky. Look for the evening crescent moon beginning the 28th. Jupiter sets before Venus rises after October 1st. Make your last sightings of them together in the sky simultaneously before then.
